TRYG: What was really cool about going into this CD was that we've got a pre-production process down to a science now (well when i say we, I mean Tim). Hats off to Tim for being our tech. guru. Hes got enough portable studio gear that we're able to go into the studio with amazing demos in hand. By the time we hit the studio now its clockwork as far as tracking goes. We've got all the clicks and arrangements on tape and use them as beds in the studio. I think its safe to say that we can track a CD in half the time it would take conventionally, just because of how much work we do ahead of time.
TOM: Tim (aka McGyver) had his portable studio set up for pre-production. By the time we went in the studio, we were damn ready, except for me. I couldn’t remember some of the parts, that’s how new the songs were! We finished writing some of the songs just a few days before we hit the studio. After a couple of beatings from T & T, I was back on track. The drums sound huge, very live; it’s the best drum sound we ever got in the studio.
TIM: Definitely down to a science. Also, we have naming our songs down to a fucking ART! Nothing pleases me more than hearing a cool tune all finished up, and then going "HEY! Lets call that one BROWN CARPET TILE" and having the rest of the guys go "yea... ok"
TOM: This album came together very quickly. We were supposed to go on the road for a week in July and that fell through. So Tryg said, let’s take that week to write new songs and record them shortly after. Alrighty then… so we did! For three solid days, Wednesday to Friday, we wrote, wrote and wrote. I remember that by Friday night, the three of us were completely exhausted, we were done like dinner. It took a lot out of us
TIM: This time around, there wasn't any night shifts for me to do....which ROCKED. It was weird just going home after the session, and not having to go to work, and then straight back to work again.
TRYG: In direct contrast to Karaoke Bitch Slap I've never felt more comfortable in the studio this time. Sanzo is like an old friend of the band now and its a super comfortable studio vibe. We've all bonded over many sushi dinners over the years hahahaha. I've never recorded my bass tracks faster than during the CBB sessions... the majority of my bass tracks were nailed in one take. I think I only did overdubs on two or three tracks at the most... the rest were one-takes. It just went real smooth for me this time.
TOM: We were all impressed with it. I really like this album; it’s a bit of a departure from the last two, more up-tempo. Plus we have killer vocals on two tracks, thank you, Paolo! This album was also partly paid for by previous album sales, now that shit is wack
